Transactional Email
Transactional email is sent because a user has an account or takes an account-related action on Sommly. These messages are not promotional and may include email verification, password reset, account security notices, onboarding status, booking updates, receipts, and direct support responses.
Transactional email is sent only when it is necessary to operate the service or respond to the user's request.
Marketing Email
Marketing email is optional. It may include launch announcements, wine education, product updates, and sommelier spotlights. Users can opt in when they create an account, and we store that consent with subscriber metadata so we can segment responsibly later.
We do not use purchased, rented, scraped, or third-party recipient lists. Sommly account creation is currently the primary source of marketing subscribers.
List Metadata
For opted-in users, Sommly stores basic segmentation metadata such as account type, signup source, signup path, and internal user ID in the email list manager. This helps avoid confusing customers with sommelier-specific updates, and vice versa.
Unsubscribes And Suppression
Every marketing campaign should include an unsubscribe link once campaigns are active. Until public preference pages are configured, users can request removal by emailing drinkwine@somm.ly. Bounces and complaints are handled through the email provider's suppression mechanisms.
